Author's Note: So, I had this "I wonder what would happen if Mac and Dick interacted with each other in each party the show has through the seasons" thought this is the fourth chapter from that idea. I hope you guys like this third chapter.

The suite was crowded, everybody was dressed to the 9’s and this was supposed to be one of the best nights of her life, but Mac found herself wishing that someone would shoot her. This wasn’t the Prom, it was Logan’s bastardized version of the Prom. Everybody was dressed up, but Mac felt like an idiot in her dress. And this couldn’t be the best night of her life because she was at the Alterna-Prom, not with the boyfriend she liked, but with the stupid idiot who blackmailed Veronica into selling her.

‘EX-boyfriend,’ Mac reminded herself bitterly as she once again heard the words “Good luck getting laid” run through her mind.

Now, true, the “date” with Butters wasn’t too bad because he admitted it was weird for him to force her to go to Prom with him, but she still didn’t really like him and she just wanted to go home. Right now she was standing against the wall while Butters was off talking with Corny. It seemed her night was just going to be worse when Dick slid in front of her, put his arms around her waist and pulled her away from the wall before she could protest.

“Dick, what are you doing?” Mac asked as she stared up at him while he began to sway her to the music. “I Hear the Bells” by Mike Doughty was playing throughout the suite and Mac knew there was no escape when she saw through the crowd of people that Veronica seemed to be in an intense conversation with Logan.

“I’m dancing with you, Ghost World, what does it look like I’m doing?” Dick replied with a smirk as he tightened his hold on her waist so she couldn’t pull away from him. She wasn’t moving with him and she was trying her best not to touch him, but there was no escape from his arms and she knew it.

“It looks like you’re trying to ruin my night, actually,” Mac told him with an eye roll.

“Oh, so, you’re trying to tell me that you were having a wonderful night with that Butters kid?” Dick asked skeptically, raising his eyebrows at her.

“Maybe I am,” Mac replied with a defiant lift of her chin.

“Oh, so I should let go of you because he’s coming back over here?” Dick suggested with a grin and his grin widened when Mac put her arms up on his shoulders, placing her hands on the back of his neck.

“I didn’t say that,” Mac said as she began to sway to the music with him. To her surprise, Dick remained quiet for a few minutes, just slowly swaying back and forth and occasionally turning Mac in a new direction.

“So, why did you do it?” Dick whispered into her ear.

“Why did I do what?” she replied as she looked up into his eyes.

“Why’d you break up with the Beav?” Dick asked, biting on his bottom lip as he looked back down at her. “I thought you liked him.”

“If you must know, I didn’t break up with him,” Mac told him, looking off to the side so she could avoid his eyes.

“Wait a minute, he broke up with you?” Dick asked in shock as he gently turned her face back toward him. “Damn, he’s dumber than I thought he was.”

Mac snorted in disbelief as she stared up at him. “What?”

“Well, I mean, he’s a wuss and you’re weird but you two actually kind of worked together,” Dick explained, biting his bottom lip again.

“Gee, thanks, Dick, I could totally tell you thought that while I was dating him and you were being a complete asshole about it the whole time,” Mac said, rolling her eyes at him again and making a move to get away from him.

“Aw, come on, don’t be like that,” Dick said as he grabbed her arms, put them back on his shoulders and held her even tighter to his body. “I was trying to be nice and some shit, damn.”

“Dick, seriously, what the hell do you want?” Mac asked as she tilted her head to the side and glared up at him.

“I don’t want anything,” Dick told her.

“Please, you’ve been trying to get every girl in this room to have sex with you, including Veronica, so what makes me any different?” Mac asked as she rolled her eyes at him again.

“Would you believe I actually think you’re too good for me?” Dick questioned, tilting his head to the side.

Mac snorted in disbelief again, shaking her head. “Your questionable charms aren’t going to work on me, Dick.”

“Hey, I had to try,” Dick replied with a grin. “So, why did you come here with Butters? Are you just really into younger guys or something?”

“Please, if I had a choice in the matter I wouldn’t be here at all,” Mac told him. “Veronica basically sold me to him in exchange for him helping her with a favor for me.”

“Dude, that sucks,” Dick said, laughing. “I was gonna say, if you were so desperate for a date that you’d come with a sophomore, I would have come with you.”

“And why exactly would I have been desperate for a date?” Mac asked as she glared at him.

“Chill! I was just joking!” Dick said, backpedaling quickly. “I was just saying that if you didn’t want to come to Prom alone, I would have come with you.”

“Dick, I’ve already told you that I didn’t want to come to Prom at all, so why are you being so weird and lying about how you would have come with me?” Mac asked, still glaring at him. “I mean, you’ve seriously got to stop trying to mess with my head because you’re obviously losing your touch.”

“I’m not messing with your head, alright?” Dick pleaded and he actually looked sincere. They were both quiet for a few more minutes before Dick leaned down and whispered in Mac’s ear: “Why didn’t anything else happen after that kiss?”

“What are you talking about?” Mac asked but she felt her heart jump in her chest, knowing he was talking about the Spin the Bottle kiss at Gia’s party months ago.

“Come on, Mackie, you know what I’m talking about,” Dick whispered so close to her ear that his lips brushed it, sending shivers down her spine.

“That kiss didn’t mean anything, Dick, it was just Spin the Bottle,” Mac told him but as she tried to pull away from him he moved one hand up her back to the back of her head, holding her close to him gently but firmly.

“I’ve never kissed anybody like that before and I’ve never felt like that during one kiss before,” Dick told her with his lips still brushing against the shell of her ear. “I know it meant something so how come nothing else ever happened?”

“Your girlfriend was sitting right next to us at the time and a couple of weeks later, Cassidy asked me out because he was never embarrassed to be seen in public with me,” Mac told him as she continued to try to move away from him.

“Is that what you think?” Dick asked as he pulled back and looked down into her eyes. “That I never asked you out because I was embarrassed to be seen in public with you? Come on, Mackie, I never asked you out because I didn’t want you to go through the hell Logan and then Duncan put Ronnie through. In case you haven’t noticed, the 09ers don’t take too well to 02ers dating their friends.”

“I don’t believe that,” Mac said shaking her head and she would have continued but Dick was suddenly cupping the side of her face, gently holding her still as he slowly moved down to kiss. Panicking and feeling like her heart was beating in her throat, Mac pulled back from him completely, saying “I have to go. I have to go” in a strangled voice.

Dick watched her hurry out of the suite and considered following her until he saw her meet up with Veronica at the door, who also seemed freaked out about something.

“Well, damn,” Dick said under his breath before he crossed the room to where Logan was sitting on a counter, intending to see if his best friend wanted to get drunk with him for the rest of the evening.

Wow.... Dick an actual move, having an actual conversation. That to take a serious amount of inner pep talk. *chuckles*

I liked your version of the alterna prom. It was really sweet, it's great that the same thing happened to Veronica and Mac.

*Grins* I'm glad you liked Dick's move and him having an actual conversation with Mac. I'm sure he probably did have to give himself an inner pep talk. LOL.

I'm happy to hear you liked my version of alterna prom and the fact that Dick to Mac what Logan was doing to Veronica. LOL.
